Notes on Testing Taxes

(This article will be fleshed out in due time; for now, it's just a simple set of testing steps.)

Test Case 1​

  1. While logged out, navigate to https://members-staging.solidwp.com/cart.php?action=add&id=666
  2. Confirm that Solid Suite (1 site) is added to the cart. Total price: $199
  3. Proceed to checkout; continue as guest; use an alias email.
  4. Use the following address: 101 3rd Ave NE, Austin, MN 55912.
  5. Do not check "tax exempt". Just click "Continue to checkout".
  6. On the next page, confirm that you see sales tax added in the pricing. It should be about $15.68, making for a total checkout price of $214.68.
  7. Use the test credit card number 4111111111111111 to complete the purchase.
  8. The purchase should succeed, and you should be able to set your new account's password.
    • Take note of your username, and set a new password.
  9. As an administrator, log into the staging Recurly environment: https://ithemes-staging.recurly.com/welcome
  10. Find the order you just placed in step 7. Confirm that $15.68 of sales tax was added to the order and $214.68 was the total order amount.
    • NOTE: A one- or two-cent difference is normal, due to the way numbers are rounded on memberpanel. Anything more than one or two cents could be a bug, and should be reported.

Test Case 2​

  1. Log out of Memberpanel.
    • Ideally, clear your browser cache and cookies as well for good measure.
  2. Now, repeat Test Case 1 with the following key changes:
  3. Do check "tax exempt".
  4. When prompted for a tax exemption ID, enter a 9-digit number.
    • This is a US address, so we are imitating an EIN here. You could literally use 123456789.
  5. Proceed to checkout; confirm that the sales tax does not show up on the page where you enter your credit card.
  6. Use the test credit card number 4111111111111111 to complete the purchase.
  7. The purchase should succeed, and you should be able to set your new account's password.
    • Take note of your username, and set a new password.
  8. As an administrator, log into the staging Recurly environment: https://ithemes-staging.recurly.com/welcome
  9. Find the order you just placed in step 7. Confirm that no sales tax was added to the order, and $199.00 was the total order amount.
